What will I get each week?
From Pa Pa:
This will be our second year to offer a CSA option and we realize it will take time to answer customer questions fully.. It is definitely a leap of faith for someone to pay a large sum of money up front in return for some fresh produce right from the field. We feel that you will be more than satisfied with our weekly baskets just as our past customers have enjoyed our seasonal products. We assure you that will do not take your support lightly and plan to give you the best of the best produce we grow.
By joining our CSA this year you will be guaranteed the opportunity to join in future years as we develop more varieties for you to enjoy. We are planting blueberries, apples, and peaches this year (ready in future years) to go along with our strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries that will be producing this season.
Our biggest question so far has been from potential members as to what they might expect in their baskets each week. Here is our best answer at this time, keep in mind that Mother Nature has the final word and if our twenty week season is delayed we will just extend it longer in the fall.
Weeks 1-4 you may get 1 bunch of asparagus, 1 bunch of radishes, and 1 bunch of kale, an 8 oz. bag of spinach, 8 oz. bag of deluxe salad mix, 2 quarts of strawberries, 1 kohlrabi and we will finish your box with peas, cabbage , or green onions.
Weeks 5-15 will cover the main growing season. We will have changing products but one example is: 1 lb. new potatoes, 1 lb. of tomatoes, 1 lb. green beans, 1 doz. ears of sweet corn, 1 pint of raspberries or blackberries, 2 green peppers, 1 head buttercrunch head lettuce, 1 cantaloupe, 1 watermelon. Some weeks you may get eggplant, okra, yellow onions, candy onions, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, beets, and jalapeno peppers to change things up from week to week.
Weeks 16-20 will transition into fall crops. You might get 1 head cauliflower, 1 bunch of broccoli, 1 large candy onion, 1-2 lb. potatoes, 1 lb. sweet potatoes, 1 doz. ears of sweet corn, 1 lb. tomatoes, 1 lb. green beans, 2 green peppers, 1 acorn squash, 1 spaghetti squash, 1 butternut squash all in the same week. We will also have pumpkins and popcorn to change things up a little.
You could also request additional produce from week to week at CSA member discounted prices- many who like to can or freeze for winter will love this option.
Last year we had close to 500 tomato plants!
We may also have jams and jars of salsa that we would put in your weekly basket and plan to share with you some of our family recipes to try new things!
Hopefully, this gives people a better idea what they can expect to find every week. CSA's are very popular on the east coast and our Midwest farms have the potential to provide for families with local food also. Thanks for your interest and we hope that you will become one of our members for years to come.

What is a CSA?Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is part of a growing social movement that encourages urban & rural citizens to share responsibility for the land where their food is grown as well as how their food is produced. In simplest terms,
CSA is a partnership between agricultural producers and consumers. Members or “shareholders” pay a fee at the beginning of the growing season to meet a farm’s operating expenses for the upcoming season. In return, members receive a portion of the farm’s produce each week throughout the growing season. . |
